WORLD IN DEBRIS
Who?
Emad Nassar,Palestinian photographer, was born in 1993 in Gaza city- Palestine, studied press and media in Alaqsa University.Wissam Nassar, a Gaza-born photojournalist who has worked in the coastal enclave for the past eight years, has seen it all. He lives a life surrounded by war and reconstruction but finds the most authentic images he makes as a photographer in the subtler moments of reprieve.
“My family and I are refugees,” Nassar tells TIME, as he recalls growing up in Gaza as one of eight children from what he calls a very “working class family.” Nassar was first inspired to begin documenting Gaza’s most turbulent times while in college. He began his professional career covering the past three Israeli-Hamas wars in 2008, 2012 and 2014.
When? 2022
Where? Palestina (Gaza)
What is happening? Salem Saoody, 30, was photographed making bathtime fun for his daughter Layan and niece Shaymaa in Gaza.
Where are they now? According to Nassar, the family now live in a caravan close to the rubble that was their home.
Destruction, joy, poverty, family… After the war almost all the buildings are in debris, your relatives may be dead, but you must continue, you must protect your family and make them happinest than now. A lot of mothers and fathers in the world are in this situation, we can see it in this photo.

The photo was taken last year by Palestinian photographer Emad Nassar in Gaza (Palestina), and was posted online recently. In the photo we can see Salem Saoody (a palestinian) making bathtime fun for his daughter Layan and niece Shaymaa in their destroyed house in Gaza. Their home was destroyed by the war between Israel and Palestine, the only thing that survived was the bath. According to Nassar, the family now live in a caravan close to the rubble that was their home. The war between Israel and Palestine began after WW2, the Jewish occupied Palestine and nowadays they control almost all the country. The situation in Gaza is especially dangerous because it’s a coastal zone and Israel controls the sea.

The war probably is the worst thing that can happen to you, but if one day you are in that situation you must try to have fun if it’s possible, you must be positive, you must try to do a normal life, you must keep going. It will be difficult, but who cares, only you decide what to do to survive in that situation. If you are positives all will be easier because your mind will help you to continue

From my point of view, the war makes you stronger or kills you. It can make you stronger because you have to confront big problems with almost nothing, but if you decide to give up because you think that you can’t continue, the war will crush you.
